When you play a gacha open-world RPG, one of the most common myths you’ll encounter is that “only 5-star characters are worth building.” Many players toss any 4-star they pull straight into storage and leave them idle, writing them off as nothing more than a filler byproduct from pulling for 5-stars. But the truth is, plenty of 4-star characters aren’t just incredibly strong — they also have far lower building costs than 5-stars. Once you get them to max constellation, their overall performance even outmatches most standard 5-stars. Today, we’re breaking down 5 widely recognized “4-star gods” that will never waste your resources if you build them.
Compared to 5-star characters, which are extremely hard to pull and have an incredibly high barrier to reach max constellation, 4-star characters are easy to obtain, you can hit max constellation much faster, and the resources required for leveling and ascension don’t come with crazy high requirements. For new players, a strong 4-star can help you power through the early game progression quickly, letting you consistently earn all kinds of event and level rewards. For veteran players with plenty of extra resources, some 4-star gods with unique mechanics even outperform a lot of niche 5-stars on high-difficulty content, giving you an amazing return on your investment.
Dubbed a “6-star true god” by the Genshin community, Bennett is hands down the most agreed-upon number one 4-star god. Not only does he give teammates massive excess attack buffs, he also has a powerful burst heal that can refill your entire health bar instantly. His kit is simple and universally versatile, fitting into almost any team composition. He already has full power at zero constellation, and has no major downsides after reaching max constellation. Every player, new or veteran, absolutely needs to build a Bennett.
Xingqiu is one of the strongest off-field Hydro sub-DPS currently available. He not only deals consistent sustained damage, but also provides damage resistance and interruption resistance, plus even a small amount of healing. He fits perfectly into any team that needs Hydro application to trigger elemental reactions, and he already has impressive power at two constellation. A max constellation Xingqiu even deals more damage than quite a few 5-star characters, making him a clear top priority for your investment.
Xiangling has remained a popular top-tier sub-DPS from launch all the way to today. Her ultimate’s enemy-tracking mechanic lets her easily deal with fast-moving enemies, and her sustained damage output is absolutely incredible. You’ll see her everywhere from the classic National team to any Vaporize or Melt composition. Her power jumps drastically after four constellation, and a max constellation Xiangling can even work as your main DPS to clear the game’s hardest difficulty content. You will never regret building her.
Fischl is an extremely flexible Electro sub-DPS with a one-of-a-kind kit. Through Oz, she can deal consistent off-field Electro damage and application without taking up any of your main DPS’s field time. She performs incredibly well in Aggravate teams, Electro-Charged teams, and even mono-Electro teams. She’s cheap to build and extremely versatile, and even after multiple major version updates, she still holds a steady spot on plenty of top rosters. Don’t leave her idle in your inventory if you pull her.
Sucrose is an incredibly high-value crowd control and damage boosting support for free-to-play players. She can not only group up small enemies, but also gives teammates massive Elemental Mastery buffs. For teams like Electro-Charged Armed comps or Aggravate comps that scale heavily with Elemental Mastery, her damage boost even outperforms top-tier 5-star Anemo supports. She works perfectly well at zero constellation, is easy to build, and is the best replacement for free-to-play players who haven’t pulled a top 5-star Anemo support yet.
The truth is, plenty of 4-star characters have power that doesn’t lose out to 5-stars at all. Add that they’re easy to obtain and cheap to build, their overall return on investment is actually higher than a lot of niche 5-stars. If you have any of these 5 4-star gods sitting in your inventory, go grab your resources and start building them today — they will definitely give you a pleasant surprise.
