If you’ve played Honkai: Star Rail or any online gacha game with a support character system, you’ve probably wondered: how do you set your support to help other players while earning as much of the game’s core currency, Credits (what most players call gold), as possible? If you follow the right setup logic and simple tricks, you can earn a steady stream of free resources from your support character. This guide breaks down everything you need to know about the best setup methods and credit-earning tips.
Most support systems let players put up 1 to 3 characters for other players to borrow. We recommend you prioritize placing well-trained, high-level characters that don’t see regular use on your main active team. This way, your own day-to-day gameplay pushing story stages and running events isn’t impacted, and your high-level character is far more likely to match what other players need, which drastically increases how often it gets borrowed.
If you want to boost how often your support gets borrowed, don’t leave the same character up permanently. You need to adjust your pick to match the game’s current progression and content. For example, if a new event boss with a Ice weakness just launched, put a high-level Ice damage dealer up as your support. If a new high-difficulty dungeon that needs heavy damage absorption is available, place a tanky support with high HP and high defense. The better your support matches what players need right now, the more often it will get borrowed.
Many new players forget to turn on public borrowing permissions for their support, and accidentally set it to private use only. If you do this, you won’t get any borrowing rewards at all. We recommend confirming this setting as soon as you unlock the system, and open it up to allow borrowing from either guild members or all players on the server. Additionally, the game regularly runs “double credit for borrowed support” events. During these periods, be sure to swap to a popular in-demand character to take advantage of the double bonus and earn twice the normal payout.
Most games don’t automatically deposit support rewards into your inventory. Instead, they are stored in the support system’s mailbox or rewards tab. We recommend building the habit of claiming these rewards every time you log in. This prevents your rewards tab from filling up and blocking new credits from being added, so you don’t waste free earning opportunities for no reason.
On top of earning rewards when other players borrow your character, most games also feature a daily mission that gives you extra credits for clearing a stage using another player’s support. This mission almost never costs extra stamina, and you can complete it just by clearing a regular standard stage. Don’t forget to claim this free extra gold!
Overall, setting up your support character and earning extra credits is extremely simple. If you build these correct habits, you can easily accumulate tons of extra gold, and you’ll never be short on resources when you want to buy leveling materials or unlock new in-game content.
