New to Honkai Star Rail? This complete stamina allocation guide will help you stop wasting your hard-earned Trailblaze Power
Welcome to the amazing universe of Honkai: Star Rail! As a new Trailblazer just starting out on your interstellar journey, have you ever stared at the Trailblaze Power (the game’s stamina bar) in the top right corner feeling totally confused? Do questions like “Why does my stamina never last long enough, what should I even be farming?” and “Everyone is posting insane Relics online, should I start farming them right now too?” constantly cross your mind? Don’t worry, this guide is made exactly for you: a full breakdown of optimal Trailblaze Power allocation from level 1 all the way to level 70. Our core philosophy is simple: before you raise your Equilibrium Level, the most efficient use of your stamina is to focus on leveling up 2 full core teams (8 characters total), including their levels, Light Cones, and Traces. Jumping into the Relic grind too early is a massive waste of precious stamina that will only slow down how fast you get your full teams ready to go. Follow this guide, and you’ll learn how to spend every point of stamina where it matters most, building a solid foundation to become a competent Trailblazer.
In the very first stage of the game, you only have one main priority: push through the Main Story and Trailblaze Missions as fast as possible. This isn’t just to get through the awesome story — completing these missions gives you a huge amount of Trailblaze EXP that lets you level up your Trailblaze Level quickly. Every time you raise your Trailblaze Level, you unlock higher character level caps, new game features, and most importantly, you unlock access to higher difficulty material stages like Calyx and Stagnant Shadow, which give you much more valuable rewards per stamina spent. During this stage, you should avoid any stamina expenditure that slows down your main story progress as much as possible.
So where should you spend the daily stamina that naturally regenerates every day? The answer is clear: put all of it into Calyx (Golden). You need tons of character EXP books (Adventure Logs) and Light Cone EXP materials (Aether) to make sure your main damage dealer (main DPS) and their equipped Light Cone keep up with the current Trailblaze level cap. A level-advantaged character can easily beat every main story enemy even if they’re only wearing gear given to you for free by the game. Do not even think about touching any Cavern of Corrosion (Relic farming dungeons) right now. Farming Relics at this stage has a low drop rate, you’ll only get low-star pieces, and it’s an enormous waste of hard-earned Trailblaze Power. Going all-in on character and Light Cone EXP at this stage gives you the highest return on your stamina investment.
Once you hit Trailblaze Level 40 and raise your Equilibrium Level to 3, the focus of your game progression shifts for the first time. You’ll now unlock higher-tier material dungeons, so you need to adjust your stamina allocation strategy to match. The core goal at this stage is to build out 2 full core teams (usually 4 characters per team, 8 total), and start farming Ascension materials and Trace materials for them, getting fully prepared to challenge Forgotten Hall. Forgotten Hall is one of the most consistent sources of Stellar Jade in the game, so being able to clear it as early as possible is extremely important for free-to-play and low-spend players.
A common mistake many new players make is exactly what happened to our example player, Mike, who jumped into Relic farming at Trailblaze Level 35. He saw top players posting huge damage numbers from their Destruction DPS online, and couldn’t resist dumping all his stamina into Relic dungeons. After a whole week of farming, he never even got a single piece with the correct main stat, and his character levels and key Traces were completely stuck, leaving him unable to even clear new main story stages. The right approach is to prioritize spending stamina on Stagnant Shadow (for character Ascension materials) and Calyx (Crimson) (for Trace materials), and get the levels, Light Cones, and key Traces of your 8 core characters as high as possible. As for Relics, you can get by just fine using the purple Relics from main story and missions, or pieces that drop from Simulated Universe. Solid core progression (character level, Light Cone, Traces) is always way more valuable than the tiny, random gains from good Relic substats.
Congratulations! When you reach Trailblaze Level 60 and raise your Equilibrium Level to 5, you finally unlock the highest efficiency Cavern of Corrosion. From this point on, every run is guaranteed to drop at least one 5-star (gold) Relic, which means you can finally start farming endgame gear for your main damage dealer. That said, pay close attention to that word “start” — this doesn’t mean you should dump all your stamina into Relic dungeons right away. Your characters’ Traces still have a ton of room for improvement at this stage, especially your main DPS’s Basic Attack, Skill, and Ultimate, plus key passives for your support characters.
Take our second example player, Lily, for reference. She strictly followed the “foundation first” rule when she was level 55, focusing all her stamina on leveling up her 8 core characters’ levels, Light Cones, and Traces. Even though her Relics were just a hodgepodge of free pieces from the game and Simulated Universe, her solid base progression let her clear the early floors of Forgotten Hall easily, and she collected consistent Stellar Jade rewards every cycle. Once you hit level 60, we recommend using the “70/30 Rule” for stamina allocation: around 70% of your Trailblaze Power still goes toward Trace materials and character EXP, getting all your core team characters up to level 80. The remaining 30% can be used to farm Relics for your main DPS. The goal at this stage is “first get usable, then get perfect” — you can stop once you have a full gold Relic set with the correct main stats for your main DPS. This balanced approach lets you shore up your character’s base progression while also working toward your main DPS’s endgame gear set.
When you reach Trailblaze Level 65 and raise your Equilibrium Level to the maximum level 6, your game experience enters a brand new stage. At this point, Cavern of Corrosion runs now guarantee two gold Relic drops per run, which is when you’re truly in the golden age of Relic farming. By this stage, your core team’s character levels and key Traces should almost all be fully upgraded, so your base progression is complete. Now, your goal shifts from building your team to optimizing the small details, which means chasing perfect substats on your Relics.
In this endgame stage, you can comfortably spend most of your daily Trailblaze Power running Cavern of Corrosion and Simulated Universe, farming god-tier Relics with both crit stats (crit rate and crit damage). Any Fuel (stamina refiller items) you’ve saved up along the way can now be used without hesitation. Once your main and secondary DPS’s Relic sets are mostly complete, you can start building niche counter characters for specific content, like shield breakers for specific elements or more versatile support characters, to handle the ever-changing challenges of the late-game Forgotten Hall content, Pure Vanilla. When your core base progression is done, dumping stamina into Relic dungeons is the best way to maximize your character’s overall strength.
To sum it all up, the core of character progression in Honkai: Star Rail is taking things step by step. This interstellar journey isn’t a 100-meter sprint — it’s a marathon. Chasing the end goal (perfect Relics) too early will just drain your stamina early and keep you from building the solid foundation you need to progress. Remember, solid character levels, Light Cones, and Traces are the strong foundation that will let you go much further in the game. Don’t fall into the social comparison anxiety you see online, and progress at your own pace — you’ll find this journey is a lot more fun and less stressful than you think.
