Every year, the Honkai Star Rail meta shifts dramatically as new characters launch and developers roll out version balance updates. In 2026, after multiple major game overhauls and the release of several new limited-time characters, the overall strength ranking of the full character roster has changed quite a bit. This tier list delivers a comprehensive evaluation across all key scenarios, including current version high-difficulty content, PvP arenas, and daily resource farming, giving new players a practical reference for planning pulls and setting character leveling priorities.
For this list, we split characters into five total tiers: SS, S, A, B, and C, based on three core factors: overall versatility, maximum damage and utility after full investment, and irreplaceability in specific scenarios. Our ratings cover all three major playstyles: solo challenges, co-op play, and PvP, so we don’t base scores on just one single in-game situation.
SS-tier characters deliver top-tier performance no matter what team you slot them into or what content you’re running. They can carry your team to clear content without any special requirements, and if you pull one, prioritizing a full investment will never leave you disappointed. These are the absolute best characters in the game right now.
Dawnbreaker Ashe, Primordial Dragon Knight Wren, and Dark Sorceress Imora sit at the current DPS ceiling for this version. Not only does their base damage far outpace every other playable character, they also come packed with incredibly useful traits like armor penetration, area-of-effect damage, and self-sustain. They can handle both single-target boss fights and large packs of enemy minions with complete ease.
Sanctuary Priest Mia and Time Traveler Kai are mandatory core picks for nearly every top-tier team in the current meta. Mia provides constant party-wide healing, group damage reduction, and a solid protective barrier, making her nearly impossible for any other support character to replace. Kai, meanwhile, offers the entire party increased damage, skill cooldown reduction, and field buff conversion, making his one-of-a-kind utility completely irreplaceable.
S-tier characters boast incredibly strong specialized abilities, and their overall versatility is only just behind that of SS-tier picks. In the right specific scenarios, they can even outperform SS-tier characters, making them perfect for filling gaps in your team composition. If you pull an S-tier character, they are still well worth investing all your resources into. This tier includes characters like Lightning Assassin Lune, Blaze Warrior Glen, Ice Mage Sofia, Beastmaster Karen, Warden Knight Anthony, and Cleric Lillian.
A-tier characters fall around the middle of the pack in terms of strength, and work perfectly as transitional team members when you don’t have any higher-tier characters to invest in. A handful of A-tier characters can even pull off impressive results under specific niche conditions, so they are great for new players who are low on resources during the early game. Once you pull stronger characters later in your progression, you can easily swap them out for your A-tier picks.
B-tier characters have below-average overall strength, and only see use in a small number of extremely niche, off-meta playstyles. They won’t put up impressive results in most common scenarios. C-tier characters, on the other hand, are completely obsolete in the current version, and struggle to be useful no matter how high you level them up. Unless you have absolutely no other characters available to use, new players should never invest any of their hard-earned progression resources into these characters.
One final reminder to keep in mind: this strength tier list is only meant to serve as a reference for your pulling and progression plans. Every player has a different character roster and different play preferences, so if you have a character you love, you can absolutely build them regardless of their tier ranking. After all, having fun is the most important part of playing any game.
